About Line 1
The Line 1 (Green Line) Athens Metro runs routes from Piraeus up to Kifisia, serving 24 stations. It runs mostly above ground and is the network’s historic line (“electric train”). You can change lines at transfer stations Syntagma, Omonia, Monastiraki, Attiki, and Piraeus.
The Line 1 (the “electric train”) is the oldest in Athens: it began operating in 1869 as the Piraeus–Thiseio and was electrified in 1904. It is the only line exempt from Saturday’s 24-hour service, as its fleet is being renewed.
